After nearly two decades on the government side, primarily focusing on health care fraud investigations, Maritsa has transitioned to criminal and civil defense. Her extensive experience working with federal and state agencies—including the DEA, FBI, HHS-OIG, HSI, IRS, and state regulatory boards—gives her unparalleled insight into how these cases are investigated and prosecuted. Maritsa has a passion for teaching Criminal Procedure, a subject she taught for thirteen years at Columbus State Community College. She also spent four years collaborating with the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units, where she trained agents, investigators, and attorneys on best practices for investigating health care fraud cases.
Maritsa A. Flaherty is a proud double-Buckeye, having earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from The Ohio State University. Outside of her legal practice, she stays active keeping up with her two teenage sons, whether at travel hockey games or marching band competitions. Despite her busy schedule, she continues to pursue her passion for film and is on track to complete her MFA in August 2025.
Giving back to the community is something that Maritsa feels is deeply important, and she follows through with this belief by volunteering her time at Ride Above Disability (RAD). RAD is a therapeutic horseback riding center in Poway, California that works with children and adults with disabilities. They help them develop their ability to ride horses, and in turn, also helps them build strength and confidence.
